30 Day Plank Challenge! Why and What are the Benefits?
Starting March 1st, several of us are going to start a plank challenge. The goal is to add on time each day to your plank and hit the ultimate goal of a 4+minute plank by the end of 30 days. The will be options on how you can plank so anyone and everyone can do it. But, why the heck are we doing this you ask??? Well, let me tell you ;).
Your core is your POWERHOUSE it helps you with almost every movement you make throughout the day. Core muscles help tranfer force from on limb to the other and a strong core can make a big improvement on your abiblity to move and exercise! Planks help support your back, spinal column, which helps to prevent injuries. Planks also benefit far more than just your core strength. They help strengthen your biceps, neck, shoulder muscles, butt and thighs, and help them to form and develop long lean muscle.
Planks improve your core definition and performance.
-They engage all major core muscles groups including
*Transverse Abdominous- this helps you lift heaver weight
*Rectus Abdominuous- this improves your jumping, sports training, and gives that 6 pack
*External Oblique Muscle- this stabalizes your side bending and twisting
*Glutes- this helps to support your back
-They decrease your risk of injury in the back and spinal column.
*Reduces back pain
*Strengthens your muscle and ensures strong support for your entire back, especially upper
-They help to boost your overall metabolism
*burns more calories than the basic crunch or situp
*burns more energy even when you are resting
*can help provide an enhanced metabolic rate
-They significantly improve your posture
*Good posture keeps bones and joints in correct alignment
*Good posture helps keep the spin in the correct position so it will help with back pain
-They help you become more flexible
*Helps to expand and stretch your shoulders, shoulder blades, and collarbone
*Stretches hamstrings, arches of the feet, and toes
-They can help you mentally
*Planks stretch out the muscle groups that can cause stress and tension in the body
*Help calm your brain which can help with anxiety and depression
So, WOW , planks can do A LOT!! That is why I am so excited for this challenge for everyone!! We already have almost 60 people joining us this challenge and if you have been on the fence you should join us too. Always make sure that you check with your doctor before starting any routines though to make sure it right for you!
